Google is already working on the same function, and foreign media speculate that it is expected to be launched for the first time on Pixel 9 this year.
Samsung DeX and Motorola’s Ready For are both desktop modes developed by mobile phone brands themselves, so they can only be used on specific models. However, looking at the test versions of Android in recent years, we can find that Google intends to create its own desktop mode and provide it to all Android phones.
Foreign media “Android Authority” reported that Google had launched a desktop mode as early as Android 10, but it was always in the testing phase and was not open to all users. In the latest Android 15 test version, Google has further modified the system, allowing you to freely adjust the size and position of App windows, and you can quickly merge the windows for display, or change them to full screen. The overall operation is closer to Windows and macOS computers.
After actual testing, “Android Authority” believes that the desktop mode of Android 15 is still a semi-finished product. There are still many apps that do not support drag and drop, and there is no startup menu similar to “Start” or keyboard shortcuts suitable for window management. However, Google recently officially allowed Pixel 8 to support screen output. “Android Authority” speculated that this move may be to further test the desktop mode, so it is expected to be one of the main highlights of Pixel 9 and meet consumers at the autumn launch event.
