Samsung (Samsung) announced a new LPDDR5 UFS flash memory suitable for mobile phones and mobile devices. The two formats of LPDDR5 memory and UFS 3.1 NAND flash memory are packaged on a single chip, which can further reduce the internal space of the mobile phone. .
The new chip can integrate mobile phone memory and internal storage capacity into a single chip, called uMCP, which is somewhat similar to Apple’s M1 hybrid chip, which encapsulates the processor and memory into a single chip.
According to Samsung, compared with the old products based on LPDDR4H and UFS 2.2, the new LPDDR5 UFS has improved DRAM performance by as much as 50%, and the memory bandwidth has been directly increased from the original 17 GB/s to 25 GB/s. The transfer rate of NAND storage units has also doubled from 1.5 GB/s to 3 GB/s.
Because the new uMCP chip size is only 11.5 x 13 mm, and the original two components are combined into one, it can make more space inside the mobile phone and further reduce the area of the motherboard. Samsung said that the new uMCP chip capacity has also been increased, and customized products with 6GB~12GB memory and 128GB~512GB internal storage specifications can be made according to demand.
Samsung stated that the new uMCP chip has been successfully tested on many Android mobile phone manufacturers and will launch the first mobile phone product equipped with uMCP chip as soon as this month (6).
