TSMC’s 3nm process chips are about to be mass-produced. According to the Nikkei News, Apple and Intel are rumored to be the first wave of customers. Among them, Apple’s first 3nm product will not be an iPhone, but an iPad.
The source pointed out that Apple has begun to use TSMC’s 3nm technology to test its new chips, and it is expected to start mass production in the second half of next year (2022). The first 3nm chip will be the iPad, and the 2022 iPhone will be Mainly 4nm.
If the rumors are true, this will be the second time Apple has used the iPad to preemptively announce the next-generation chip. Last year, Apple released the iPad Air 4 with the A14 chip ahead of the iPhone 12. Foreign media “MacRumors” speculated that considering the publication cycle, the first 3nm chip product should be iPad Pro.
According to TSMC’s previous statement, compared with 5nm technology, the next-generation 3nm processing performance upgrade range is about 10-15%, and can have a 25-30% reduction in energy consumption.
