The Ministry of Youth Rights Protection of the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC), and China Youth New Media Association jointly organized a seminar on the topic of “Network Protection•Guarding Growth” in Beijing, and released the “Research Report on National Minors Internet Usage in 2020” .
The survey collected 35,120 valid questionnaires (including 29,155 minor questionnaires and 5,965 parent questionnaires), covering elementary, junior high, high school and vocational school students in 31 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities), and for the first time aimed at parents’ online concepts And educational methods.
In 2020, my country’s underage Internet users will reach 183 million, and the Internet penetration rate will be 94.9%, an increase of 1.8 percentage points from 2019.
The number of underage Internet users continues to grow, and the trend of younger age is more obvious. More than one-third of elementary school students have begun to access the Internet before school age.
Most minors have their own network equipment, reaching 82.9%, 92.2% use mobile phones to surf the Internet, 65.0% have their own mobile phones, 26.0% of tablets, and 25.8% of wearable devices. Popularization in China is relatively rapid.
The proportion of using the Internet to study is 89.9%, and the proportions of playing games and watching videos are 62.5% and 49.3% respectively.
The Internet penetration rate of minors in urban and rural areas has basically leveled, but there are differences between the two types of group applications.
The proportion of urban juvenile netizens using search engines, social networking sites, news, shopping and other applications with strong social attributes is more than 6 percentage points higher than that of rural juvenile netizens, while the proportion of rural juvenile netizens using short videos, animations or comics for leisure and entertainment is higher In the town.
The 13th National People’s Congress of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress deliberated and approved the revised “Minors Protection Law,” which added a special chapter “Internet Protection”.
In the survey, 27.2% of minors said that they “have encountered cybersecurity incidents in the past six months”, a decrease of 6.8 percentage points from 2019 (34.0%).
As for the protection of their own rights and interests, 74.1% of those who knew that rights could be defended and reported via the Internet were reached.
In terms of parents’ supervision of minors’ surfing the Internet, 50.1% of parents believe that the family is the most important factor in supervising and guiding minors to surf the Internet, but 57.5% of the parents said that they don’t know much about the Internet, and surfing the Internet is mainly for watching news or short videos. 24.7% of parents believe that they are dependent on the Internet, and 4.1% of parents said that they do not know how to use the Internet, which may lead to “simple and rude” or “incompetent” in managing and guiding their children’s Internet access. Problems such as indulging in games are also difficult to achieve a good correction effect.
The final report also gives several suggestions for the analysis of the report: improving the protection of minors’ privacy information, improving the ability of rural minors to use the Internet, paying attention to the supervision of minors’ online irrational behavior, improving the online education model, and guiding parents to do Children set an example and improve management skills.
