I wonder what score they’ll give it.
OnePlus announced today that it’s partnering with photography experts DxO to enhance the camera on its upcoming flagship phone, the OnePlus 5.

The 3T offered great performance on a midrange budget.

Though DxO makes photography software and mobile camera accessories (like the DxO One), it’s more well known for its reference guide, DxOMark, which reviews and ranks cameras, lenses and smartphone cameras. By working with DxO, OnePlus told CNET, it is confident that the OnePlus 5 will be capable of taking crystal clear photos. Exactly how the two will do this, however, was not revealed.
DxO Labs is popular for DxOMark mobile photography benchmark that ranks smartphones’ camera.
DxOMark’s rankings are often cited by manufacturers as bragging rights whenever their device rank highly. Currently, the highest smartphone camera is the HTC U11 (with a score of 90). It only recently usurped the Google Pixel, which topped the list since its debut last October. It is then followed by the HTC 10 and Samsung Galaxy S8.
OnePlus has partnered with ‘DxO Labs’ to improve camera experience in upcoming OnePlus 5.
OnePlus has announced that it is teaming up with DxO Labs to improve the photography experience of its upcoming OnePlus 5. ‘DxO Labs’ is popular for DxOMark mobile photography benchmark that ranks smartphones’ camera as per their image-capturing capabilities.
“OnePlus’ cameras have been improving with each new flagship product we’ve released. There’s always more to be done to give you the ability to take clearer, more beautiful photos. Sometimes finding the right partner is one of the quickest ways to take things to the next level,” noted OnePlus blog.
Recently, DxO ranked HTC’s new flagship HTC U 11 as the best ever camera on a smartphone with a score of 90 points. Earlier the same title was with Google’s Pixel smartphone with 89 points.
While at one point it seems like good move by the company to benefit consumers, at the same time it does raise eyebrows as to what could be the ulterior motive behind this partnership. Anyway, OnePlus hasn’t revealed any details about what the two companies will essentially work on for OnePlus 5 camera.
The Chinese company usually launches a ‘Flagship Killer’ smartphone every year and this year the anicipated OnePlus 5 is making a lot noise beacause of the dual rear camera setup. The latest leak around the camera was a live image from Android Authority revealing vertically stacked dual rear camera on a prototype. In a world where Instagram has more users than the population of most countries, it’s no secret that a phone’s camera is often its selling point. Now, in a bid to win over some of that mammoth audience, phone manufacturer OnePlus has enlisted the help of photography experts DxO. Renowned for creating the respected camera benchmark system, DxOMark, the company is now helping the phone maker create a world-leading camera for the upcoming OnePlus 5.

As you may remember, this isn’t the first time that DxO has attempted to bring its expertise to smartphones. In 2015 the company released the DxO One — an attachable phone peripheral that added a whole host of post-processing improvements to your photos. According to its rating system, the HTC U11 boasts a record DxO score of 90– causing many to claim that it’s the world’s best camera phone. Whether it’s Google’s pixel, Samsung’s Galaxy S8 or HTC’s U11, OnePlus has its work set out for it.

Unsurprisingly, it’s a partnership that OnePlus expects to gain a lot from. “Working alongside DxO, we’re confident the OnePlus 5 will be capable of capturing some of the clearest photos around” says OnePlus’ social media manager, Diego Heinz. Yet, although DxO’s ratings are still highly revered, it’s worth noting that not everyone in the camera world takes the DxOMark as gospel.

Aside from this teaser, not much is know about the OnePlus 5. So far, no specs or even the design of the phone have been released, but with its launch rapidly approaching, it probably won’t be long before we see that camera in action.
Meanwhile, going by the leaked information so far, the upcoming OnePlus 5 is likely to feature Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor like the Samsung Galaxy S8 coupled with Adreno 540 GPU and 6GB or 8GB of RAM. Some rumours initially did suggest OnePlus to stick with 6GB RAM, but then leaks can’t be trusted completely too. Another rumour around the mill is that OnePlus might have a special 8GB RAM variant with 256GB storage and it could be priced as high as $650, which is roughly Rs. 42,000.
Other than that OnePlus 5 6GB RAM variant is likely to come in two storage options – a 64GB and 128GB built-in flash. The display i
