Real Tone in Pixel Camera and Google Photos – Pixel 6 Launch

Historically, camera technology has overlooked and excluded people of color. Today’s cameras carry that same bias. Google is committed to changing that with Real Tone on Google Pixel 6, the world’s most inclusive smartphone camera.* With Real Tone, Pixel 6’s camera represents the nuances of all skin tones beautifully and accurately.

With Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, we are improving camera and image tools for people of color. Working with image experts — photographers, cinematographers and colorists — our engineers created our most equitable camera. Plus, Google Photos will also have Real Tone built into its auto enhance feature to more accurately represent skin tones.

We made improvements in:
📷 Face detection models
📷 Auto-white balance tuning
📷 Auto-exposure tuning
📷 Algorithmically reducing stray light

This fall, Google is partnering with T Brand, the creative content studio of New York Times Advertising, to explore image equity through the lens of Pixel 6. Learn more at g.co/pixel/realtone and keep an eye out for the campaign in The New York Times magazine, app, and at nytimes.com.

Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are available through pre-order at GoogleStore.com on October 19th. Find it on shelves, including the Google Store in New York City, starting October 28th.
