The Google Pixel 6 could be with us soon, according to code within the company’s camera app. More evidence of a possible release date for the Google Pixel 6, has been found within Google’s own camera app. XDA Developers’ Mishaal Rahman, posted on Twitter (via Notebookcheck) that, he’d found the date flag “10-27-2021” relating to a mandatory update that Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro users, will have to download on or after this day. No other Pixels are marked to download this update, Rahman adds. This arguably fits in with older rumors. Leaker Jon Prosser has claimed that Google will unveil the Pixel 6 on October 19, with the phone going on sale on October 27. dditionally, the researchers also discovered several exciting new software-based camera features, some of which make use of the Pixel 6’s new “Tensor” machine learning processor. These include improved manual white balance, a ‘magic eraser’ function, and more powerful zoom (up to 7x) when recording video at high frame rates. Also discovered were functions related to Google’s already announced ‘Face Deblur’ feature, as well as references to new ‘Scene Lock’ and ‘Baby Mode’ options. The ‘Frequent Faces’ feature, which prioritizes people you know when taking group photos, gets an upgrade to ‘V2’, while a new ‘Portrait Spotlight Enhance’ option appears in the configuration files, for both the Pixel 6 and Pixel 5a series of smartphones. Making use of the Pixel 6’s new Tensor processor is a new “NIMA Aesthetic” feature, exclusive to the Pixel 6 range. NIMA or “Neural Image Assessment” uses machine learning to automatically assess the quality of an image both technically and aesthetically. It can also be used as a basis for automatic image enhancement. The use of MIMA could therefore, help to make the Pixel 6 better at finding your best shots and perhaps better at enhancing them too, depending on how the feature is implemented. This could turn out to be a powerful differentiating feature for the Pixel 6 range, but only time will tell.
