Samsung’s latest flagship machine, the Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G, uses its own latest 108M sensor “ISOCELL HM3”. According to Samsung, the components used this time are much more than the HM1 used in the previous generation Galaxy S20 Ultra. Improvements include enhanced HDR shooting and low-light and autofocus performance.

According to the official technical documents released by Samsung, the new technology added to “ISOCELL HM3” this time, including the enhanced HDR Smart ISO Pro function, can capture high ISO and low ISO images at the same time and combine them into 12-bit images. First, you can get more color information (with Smart ISO Pro you can capture about 64 times more color information than 10-bit images), and secondly, it can solve the problem of ghosting caused by high-speed motion.

In addition, the overall size of Samsung’s HM3 photosensitive element is 1 / 1.33 inches. There are 12,000 x 9,000 pixels distributed in the element grid. The effective pixel is 2.4 µm and the actual resolution is 12 MP.

The HM3 sensor also has a noise reduction mode, which can increase the light sensitivity of the element by 50%. As long as the light is sufficient, the HM3 sensor can use a stronger mosaic algorithm, and can output up to 108 MP full-resolution images.

In addition to Smart ISO Pro, the new Super PD Plus adds micro-lens technology to the sensor element, which can enhance the autofocus function and provide more accurate phase information. The lens can enhance 50% measurement accuracy under low-light conditions. Allow HM3 to accurately focus and track moving objects in the dark.
