Elon Musk OFFICIALLY REVEALED SpaceX's Insane New NUCLEAR Engine!

Elon Musk, SpaceX and Tesla

#Elon Musk, the CEO of #SpaceX has built the tallest known as the starship, to reach the red planet. Starship is a rocket and spacecraft combination that could ferry more than 100 people a time to the Red Planet. The system is meant to be totally reusable, which means that the main hardware components will not be abandoned in the sea or burned up, as with some other launch systems, but will instead be recovered from orbit. They can then be refurbished and flown again, lowering the overall cost of the operation. The fuel used in it is methane and liquid oxygen. Methane is the fuel and oxygen acts as an oxidiser – a chemical that makes the fuel burn. The combination is dubbed methalox. The reason behind choosing methane as fuel is that it can be synthesized on the Mars surface. Refueling the Starship using Martian resources for the return voyage to Earth would provide a level of self-sufficiency, making travels more viable and cost-effective. And it is with this spacecraft, SpaceX has estimated the half year duration. This is a lot faster than the other space ships but still not fast enough.
Two years back, the SpaceX CEO highlighted how the alternative to rocket fuel could unlock faster travel times around the solar system. He said that the Nuclear thermal rockets would be “a great area of research.” This idea came up when Musk was responding to a story from Universal-Science. The story explained how nuclear rockets could reduce the amount of time it takes to get to Mars from eight months down to just 100 days. As Musk has said that SpaceX could establish a full-blown city on Mars by 2050, so, this goal can be achieved early with nuclear rockets.
You might have an idea how the rockets work. Today’s chemical-based rockets work by igniting the fuel and forcing the exhaust through a nozzle, which generates thrust that propels the rocket into space. Thanks to good old Newton’s third law, you know, for every action there’s an equal and opposite reaction, the rocket receives a thrust in the opposite direction from the expelled gases. Compared to this, a nuclear-powered rocket has a reactor on board that heats up a fuel like liquid hydrogen, blasting the propellant through the nozzle at speed. The nuclear rocket can produce a thrust that is several times more than the traditional rockets.
