Some Android apps made by BlackBerry will be discontinued: BlackBerry KeyOne and other Android machines are affected

This month, BlackBerry announced that it will no longer provide the old services for BlackBerry 7.1OS and earlier versions, BlackBerry 10 software, and BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.1 and earlier versions.

This means that the related devices will not be able to make calls, send text messages, or even make calls to 911 (the US emergency number), which is equivalent to bricking the user’s mobile phone.

It is worth noting that BlackBerry said in the announcement that the suspension of services will not affect BlackBerry Android phones.

On January 14th, according to Android Authority, members of the CrackBerry forum found that some BlackBerry Android applications are about to stop serving, which means that BlackBerry Android phone users will face troubles.

The Password Keeper, DTEK, BlackBerry Launcher, Privacy Shade, and Keyboard apps will all reportedly be out of maintenance on August 31, 2022.

Android Authority noted that the outage will affect Android devices such as the BlackBerry KeyOne, BlackBerry Key2, BlackBerry Key2 LE, and Motioowners.

It is also worth noting that BlackBerry has authorized Onward Mobility to build BlackBerry-branded mobile phones, and Android Authority believes that Onward Mobility is unlikely to re-maintain these programs that will be discontinued.
