It turns out that there are at least 4 reasons for this design.
According to China Telecom’s explanation, the mobile phone interface is basically at the bottom, with the following considerations:
The charging port facing down is not easy to get dust: as the mobile phone is used for more time, the dust accumulated on the charging port will increase. The charging port facing down has better concealment than facing up or sideways, and the amount of dust accumulation will be less.
It is convenient to make and receive calls when charging: The charging cable of mobile phones is generally relatively long. If the charging port is designed on the top or side, it may cause the inconvenience of the charging cable wrapping around the mobile phone many times when answering a call.
It can better protect the data cable: If the charging port of the mobile phone is located at the top, because of the direction, it is easier to fold the mobile phone to the data cable when charging, thereby increasing the probability of damage to the data cable.
Reasonable layout of mobile phone hardware: mobile phone cameras, chips and other hardware are often located in the upper half of the mobile phone, while the larger battery is in the lower half. The mobile phone charging port is placed below, which can save space and resources.
Of course, there are also mobile phones with interfaces that are not at the bottom. In the past, some gaming mobile phones did have a center interface for the convenience of playing games on the horizontal screen, but these are all non-mainstream designs.
