A video of a sighting of two Rivian R1T electric trucks was recently shared in Reddit and interestingly enough, the short clip featured R1T pickup driving on the freeway next to a Tesla Model X, which looked noticeably smaller than the R1T.
“It’s shocking how small the Model X looks next to the Rivian. That makes me excited. Looks like around Los Altos Hills. I used to take Magdalena to go to/from work,” commented one Reddit user.
“It’s very similar in height to the R1T. A Model X is more crossover like and the R1S feels more like a full size suv. In person it reminded me a lot of a Yukon or Suburban scaled to 90%,” writes another person.
Rivian Automotive is America’s second all electric car manufacturer that is largely been outside the public’s eye. Enthusiasts have seen little news about this manufacturer especially because of Tesla’s new found success. Rivian is due to be an aggressive competitor to Tesla as it is heavily backed by monolithic names like Jeff Bezos and Amazon, and other notable investors including Ford. Amazon actually pledged to buy 100,000 vehicles for its delivery service fleet to keep true on their “clean earth promise.” CEO Robert Scaringe has raised over $1.6 billion and Amazon and Ford represent large portions of that. Rivian is approaching fast in Tesla’s wake and could be a very popular name in the next year or two.
“Granted, a good part of this may be due to the Model X’s air suspension being at its low setting, but the R1T’s ride height seemed to be fairly low as well,” thinks Simon Alvarez from Teslarati.
He also says the Rivian R1T and its SUV sibling, the R1S, are expected to start deliveries this year, following a delay brought about by the pandemic in 2020.
