This is the Apple Watch Series 38mm but should you still buy it in 2021? The Apple Watch Series 3 was released in September 2017, despite this Apple continues to support it through software updates and is currently sold as the entry level Apple Watch. But is it still worth buying 2021? If you are thinking of buying an Apple Watch Series 3, this video covers everything you need to know. From my perspective as a long-time apple product user but also a first time Apple Watch buyer, I will take you through the unboxing, setup, followed with my review of it’s top features, 38mm vs 42mm, price analysis, and a look at how I use the watch, by the end of which I will answer the crucial question of: whether it is still worth buying the Apple Watch Series 3 in 2021? I opted to go for the 38mm Space Grey version. I choose the smaller 38mm version as my wrists are on the small-medium side and I felt the smaller watch face would fit me best. The Space Grey colour will also pair best with most outfits. Even though this model is over 3 years old, the design and build quality remains fantastic. The glass face curves into the aluminium sizes that house the digital crown and side-button and also the mic/speaker unit. On the back you will find the sensors including the heart rate monitor. Overall the design of the Apple Watch hasn’t changed much over the years and therefore the Series 3 still looks modern. The Series 3 comes with a OLED Retina display that looks amazing. Yes the SE and Series 6 have lager always-on displays with smaller bezels but on it’s own I have no complaints of the screen. It is surprisingly easy to navigate despite its small size and the text is readable. The screen also gets really bright, even in direct sunlight. Thankfully Apple have kept the Watch band mechanism the same for all Apple Watch models so there is a very large range of bands to choose from. I have been using the black silicone band that came with it and have found the material to be soft and comfortable to wear all day and even with exercising. The watch charges with the included magnetic puck that snaps into place and will take around 2.5hrs to charge. I have found battery life to range widely, with the setup I use now, I get a full day and night of use, and charge it each morning when waking up. While the newer SE or series 6 come with more features, this does not mean the series 3 doesn’t come with many of its own, these include: heart-rate monitor, water resistant up to 50 meters, activities, music, make calls/texts, Siri, Apple Pay, sleep tracking, maps and emergency services. Much like my iPhone X running the latest version of IOS, the Series 3 handles the latest version of Watch OS with ease. Raising my wrist to wake the screen works perfectly. The Series 3 comes with a range of watch faces that can be added and customised from the Watch app on your iPhone. I have my watch on silent and feel notifications come in through excellent haptic feedback. Having Siri on my wrist is super useful. Apple Pay is safe and easy to use. Maps is also great, getting directions on the wrist is easy to check while on the go. The occasional reminder to stand, take few deeps breaths or to move a bit more to complete the daily exercise goal, is very motivating. Why did I choose the Series 3 and not the SE or Series 6? As a first time Apple Watch buyer, I knew this product is not a necessity, unlike a phone or computer. While I had definite interest in the Watch, I wasn’t sure if I would use it daily until I had a chance to have one on my wrist. For this reason I choose to go for the entry level Apple Watch the Series 3. Knowing that it still has 80% of the features of the newer models and comes in at a significantly lower cost. Should you buy the Series 3 in 2021? In my opinion, yes IF you are a first time buyer, who does not specifically need the extra features found in the SE or Series 6. Personally I am very happy with my Series 3, it really allowed me to experience the Apple Watch that has been on my watchlist for a long time. Most importantly the Series 3 offers the core features that make the Apple Watch so great.
