Rename AirPods & give them a new name

iPhone and AirPods logoBy default, your AirPods have the name that was stored for your iPhone – be it automatically by the system or by yourself. The headphones then always appear with this name in the settings on the iPhone. If you do not agree with this and would rather give the Apple headphones an individual or more creative name, you can rename your AirPods. It’s quick and easy!

Change AirPods name

Usually the name with which the AirPods are displayed in the settings corresponds to the name of your iPhone. This can be impractical, especially if you have a lot of Bluetooth devices in the device list on the iPhone and the Apple headphones cannot always be found straight away. Or if you want to share audio with a second pair of AirPods on the go. So that you don’t suddenly share your music with someone else’s AirPods nearby, the AirPods should have a clear, assignable name. To change the name of AirPods, do the following:

  1. Connect the AirPods to your iPhone (open the charging case or put the AirPod (s) in your ears).
  2. Open the Settings app (gear icon) on your iPhone.
  3. Tap on “Bluetooth” and go to the list on the “i” symbol to the right of your AirPods.
  4. Then tap on the “Name” button.
  5. Now delete the existing entry, give your AirPods a new name and tap on “Done” at the bottom.

Rename AirPods

Your AirPods now appear in the iPhone settings or z. B. also in the batteries widget under the new name. Incidentally, which AirPods you own does not matter, because the whole thing works equally on all AirPods versions – whether AirPods Pro, AirPods Max or the 2nd and 1st generation AirPods. In another post we will show you how you can rename Bluetooth devices connected to your iPhone.
