Shipments in the Latin American smartphone market in the second quarter of 2021 (April-June) grew significantly, up 41.8% year-on-year.
While Samsung still holds the top share, Chinese manufacturers such as Xiaomi and Oppo are gradually gaining power. The iPhone 11 sold best in the iPhone series.
Year-on-year recovery also decreased quarter-on-quarter
According to research firm Counterpoint, smartphone shipments in Latin America increased 41.8% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2021.
However, it decreased by 6.5% from the previous quarter, and it is said that the shortage of semiconductors affected the volume growth.
In addition, the influence of the new coronavirus still remains, and it is said that it affects the average selling price rather than the replacement rate of smartphones.
The best-selling iPhone is the iPhone 11
By manufacturer, Samsung maintained the top share of smartphone shipments in Latin America.
Samsung said that its Vietnam factory was shut down due to the effects of the new coronavirus, but it did not drop significantly because retailers and telecommunications carriers had some inventory.
Among other manufacturers, the rise of Chinese manufacturers stands out.
Xiaomi has more than tripled shipments year-on-year. Especially in Peru, it overtook Samsung to become the top market share, and even in Colombia, it was thinned to Samsung.
Oppo is also the most successful Chinese brand that has entered the region in the last year or so, with 90% of its sales concentrated in Mexico.
ZTE’s market share has also increased significantly from 3.2% in the previous year to 4.4%.
Apple’s sales declined compared to the previous quarter, due to the usual seasonality of sales declining as new products approach. The best-selling iPhone in the region in the second quarter of 2021 was the iPhone 11.
