Western European smartphone shipments decreased 6.5% year-on-year

According to IDC, the Western European smartphone market from July to September 2020 continued to be affected by the new coronavirus infection (COVID-19), and shipments fell 6.5% year-on-year to 28.8 million units.

Although the ban on going out and restrictions on entering stores have been relaxed for some time, the economy has not recovered. Consumer spending on smartphones has returned slightly, but corporate smartphone sales fell 11.5% year-on-year. This is because companies are allocating resources to buying laptops rather than smartphones.

Apple with iPhone SE and iPhone 11 Pro doing well

In terms of the number of shipments by smartphone vendor, the light and dark are clearly separated. While Apple, Xiaomi and Oppo increased shipments in the third quarter, Samsung and Huawei, which is regulated by the United States, are reducing shipments.

IDC notes that Apple had strong sales of the iPhone SE (2nd generation) and iPhone 11 Pro. According to the company, the iPhone SE (2nd generation) and iPhone 11 Pro were the best-selling smartphones in the Western European market this third quarter.

Meanwhile, Xiaomi and Oppo have taken the share dropped by Huawei, which is tightly regulated by the US government. Xiaomi has climbed to third place for the first time in the Western European market.
