It has been reported that the number of businesses using Mac rather than Windows is increasing around the world, and Mac is starting to become an important target for attackers. How can security be strengthened?
Global share of Mac in business environment is 16.5%
Apparently, it was said a while back that Macs cannot be infected with malware because they are UNIX-based operating systems, but as of 2024, the risk of Macs being targeted by attackers is higher than ever before, according to Interpres, a US security company. Security published the report on April 11th.
In the first place, the reason for this is that the number of businesses distributing Macs as PCs to their employees is steadily increasing, and as of December last year, the share had grown to 16.5%. Compared to the 3% figure as of January 2009, it can be said that it has expanded considerably over the past 14 years.
What are the security threats for Mac in 2024?
Recent security threats to Macs include cases in which the user protection function TCC (Transparency, Consent, and Control) is manipulated, making Macs vulnerable to attacks.
Hackers can target corporate users, such as developers and engineers, using methods such as social engineering (methods that exploit people’s psychological vulnerabilities or behavioral mistakes to obtain confidential information held by individuals). It is said that the number is increasing.
There are also other methods, such as abusing the Finder to control the terminal and gain disk access.

To protect your macOS system from TCC exploits, we recommend that you always turn on Mac System Integrity Protection and keep your operating system updated to address vulnerabilities.
