Although Apple assembles several iPhones in India, it does not yet have an Indian supplier for the camera modules integrated into the iPhones, a problem that could be solved by partnering with Titan or Murugappa Group.

The camera module is a critical component and currently “one of Apple’s biggest challenges in India.” Titan specializes in precision manufacturing of watch and jewelery components, while Murugappa Group has a wide range of businesses including engineering, financial services and chemicals.

Apple aims to shift at least half of its supply chain to India and aims to increase suppliers’ local value added by nearly 50% over the next three years.

Apple plans to produce nearly Rs 1 trillion worth of iPhones in India by the end of March (Q4 FY24) or Q1 FY25 by ramping up capacity at its manufacturing partners. About 70% of iPhones produced in India are exported, and this proportion is set to increase.

According to previous reports by IT House, Apple assembled US$14 billion of iPhones in India in the last fiscal year (IT House note: currently about 101.36 billion yuan). The output value has doubled. Apple currently has as much as 14% of iPhone production. Made in India.
