The second beta version of iOS 17.5 is here

iOS 17.5

Apple continues to develop iOS 17.5, the next update for iPhone and iPad, along with updates for other devices. That’s why just a few minutes ago, it launched the second beta version of iOS 17.5 and other systems.

The new features of iOS 17.5 are as follows:

  1. Install apps directly from the website: Apple announced this novelty a few weeks ago. Therefore, in iOS 17.5 we will be able to install applications from the App Store, other alternative stores accepted by Apple, and developer websites, a feature called Web Distribution. Of course, developers must accept Apple’s policy of paying 50 cents for installations exceeding 120,000 per year within the past 50 months. This feature is only available in the EU.
  2. Apple Podcasts Widget: The home screen widget of the Apple Podcasts app now has a dynamic color that depends on the cover of the podcast we are listening to. Previously it was just color that retained over time.
  3. Disable unwanted tracking: iOS 17.5 code in its first beta introduces a system for developers to disable tracking devices (AirTags, etc.). Even if devices are not authenticated on the Find My network, the operating system will detect them and alert the user to disable them. Apple hasn’t announced this feature yet, though, so we know it’s in the works.

In addition to iOS 17.5 Beta 2 for iPhone, we also have iPadOS 17.5 for iPad, as well as tvOS 17.5, watchOS 10.5, and macOS Sonoma 14.5, all of which are in their second beta versions. In these other systems, the changes are minimal, but we’ll let you know if we find out about any relevant news. The final version is expected to be released before June, which is when WWDC 2024 takes place, where iOS 18 will be shown to us for the first time.
