Apple’s “2024 Environmental Progress Report”: Total greenhouse gas emissions have been reduced by more than 55%

Apple released the “2024 Environmental Progress Report”, announcing that since 2015, the company has reduced its total greenhouse gas emissions by more than 55% and has made significant progress in advancing Apple’s 2030 goals.

Apple’s 2030 goal is to achieve carbon neutrality across the entire value chain by 2030, with the core goal being to reduce emissions by 75% based on 2015 levels.

Apple says the company is committed to using only recycled and renewable materials to make its products, which drives innovation in sourcing and design while also significantly reducing the company’s carbon footprint.

According to the report, the relevant data are as follows:

56% of the cobalt in the batteries used by Apple in 2023 will come from recycled sources, more than double the amount in 2022.

The MacBook Air, powered by the M3 chip, is the first Apple product to be made with 50% recycled materials.

24% of the lithium in Apple’s 2023 batteries will come from certified recycled sources.

In 2023, 100% recycled copper will be used in key cooling components of iPhone 15 and 16-inch MacBook Pro, as well as in the touch engine and printed circuit boards of many product lines.

The new Apple Watch series and Apple Vision Pro are 100% fiber-based packaging for the first time.

Apple’s Supplier Clean Energy Program currently supports more than 16.5 gigawatts of renewable energy globally.

More than 100 supplier factories achieved power savings of more than 2 billion kilowatt hours last year.

These facilities avoided nearly 1.7 million metric tons of carbon emissions, a 25% increase from 2022 levels.
