Previously, MNOs collected connection fees based on past performance, but now each company sets future amounts based on reasonable forecasts and reports them to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications.
 
While NTT DoCoMo’s ahamo, Softbank’s LINEMO, KDDI’s povo, and other companies are announcing new low-priced, large-capacity rate plans, the MVNO industry group requested the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications to reduce connection fees in December last year. Was there.
 
In response to this, on February 9, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications requested three major carriers to reduce the connection fee in consideration of the market environment where data traffic is increasing.

2021 connection fee, about half price in 2019

The average connection fee for 2021 that three major carriers reported to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications by the end of February was released at the “WG on Verification of Competition Rules” held on March 8th.
 
According to the released materials, the connection fee in 2021 is 260,000 yen per 10 Mbps, which is about half the price from 581,000 yen in 2019 and about a quarter from 966,000 yen in 2016.
