Twitter launches new certification program next year-Call for opinions

twitter authentication

Twitter has announced that it plans to launch a new authenticated account program in 2021. Twitter publishes the six types of authentication accounts it envisions, and is soliciting feedback from users.

What are the 6 authentication account types?

Twitter stipulates that a “blue certified badge” “informs people that a public interest account belongs to you.”

Twitter has announced that the six account types defined by the new policy are:

  • government
  • Organizations such as companies, brands and NPOs
  • news
  • entertainment
  • Sports
  • Activists, organizers, and other influential individuals

Twitter also refuses or removes criteria for automatically removing authentication for accounts with no evidence of operation or accounts with incomplete profiles, and certain eligible accounts that are found to repeatedly violate Twitter rules. It has also announced that it has added measures to do so.

Call for user opinions

Twitter has prepared a brief survey in English, Hindi, Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese and Japanese for the proposed policy for the new certified badge.

You can also give feedback by tweeting, and you can attach the hashtag “#VerificationFeedback” to express your opinion on the new authentication policy proposal.

The feedback period is from November 24, 2020 to December 8, 2020 (US time), and Twitter will publish the finalized policy on December 17, 2020.
