JR East announced on November 25, 2020 that the mobile phone non-communication section (out-of-service section) in the tunnel in all sections of the Shinkansen will be resolved on December 15.

According to the announcement by JR East, the first train on December 15 for the 6 tunnels between Toge Station-Osawa Station and Ashisawa Station-Funagata Station in the mountains, which were out of service on the Yamagata Shinkansen, and the out-of-service section of about 2 km. Therefore, it is said that all three companies, Softbank, au, and NTT Docomo, will be able to make calls.
 
The company has announced that the elimination of sections outside the service area will make it possible to use mobile phones on all lines of the Tohoku, Joetsu, and Hokuriku Shinkansen, as well as the Yamagata and Akita Shinkansen.

In areas where radio waves are blocked by artificial structures such as tunnels and mobile phones cannot be used, it is necessary to install relay facilities for mobile communications and ensure proper use of radio waves so that mobile phones can be used. Construction is being carried out using a national subsidy based on the “Radio Wave Blocking Measures Project” that is being implemented for the purpose.
