Will a high-end iPad Pro with 5G support that supports millimeter waves appear in 2021?

Taiwanese media DigiTimes reports that a high-end iPad Pro model that supports millimeter waves, which is faster than 5G, will appear next year.

5G compatible iPad is likely to be a Pro model

It has long been rumored that the iPad Pro with a 12.9-inch mini LED display and the model with an 11-inch mini LED will be released in 2021. According to the latest reports, Apple is making good progress in in-house production of millimeter-wave AiP (Antenna in Package) modules for next year’s iPhone model, and next-generation iPad models will also benefit from it.

DigiTimes’ ability to design and develop AiP modules independently suggests that Apple’s next-generation high-end iPad product, which is expected to be released in 2021, may incorporate millimeter-wave technology. I am telling you.

Millimeter-wave 5G has a limited range of use compared to sub-6GHz 5G, but enables extremely high-speed communication over short distances. Millimeter-wave support for the iPhone 12 model is only available in the United States, but it is hoped that next year’s iPhone series will roll out the technology in more countries and territories.

Is it working toward in-house production of modems?

DigiTimes also reports that Apple is looking to develop not only AiP modules but also RF front-end modules (FEMs) in-house, aiming to develop proprietary modems.

Well-known analyst Minchi Kuo has previously stated that production of the iPad Pro with a mini LED display will start in the fourth quarter of 2020 (October-December), and forecasts the launch in the first half of 2021 I am.
