Parallels released “Parallels Desktop 16.5 for Mac” officially compatible with M1 Mac on April 14, local time. This allows you to run Windows 10 ARM Insider Preview and ARM-based Linux distributions on virtual machines on your M1 Mac.
Up to 30% improvement in performance
According to Parallels, running a Windows 10 ARM Insider Preview virtual machine natively on an M1 Mac provides maximum performance when compared to a 15-inch MacBook Pro with an Intel Core i9 and Radeon Pro Vega 20 with 32GB of RAM. It will improve by 30%. In addition, Parallels Desktop 16.5 on the M1 Mac consumes 2.5 times less energy than the latest Intel-based MacBook Air.
Microsoft does not currently offer a retail version of ARM-based Windows, but is offering a Windows 10 ARM Insider Preview for members of the Windows Insider Program.
Users who already have a paid license for Parallels Desktop 16 for Mac can upgrade to Parallels Desktop 16.5 at no additional cost.
