27-inch Thunderbolt Display becomes a vintage product

27-inch Thunderbolt Display

Apple’s 27-inch Thunderbolt Display was added to the vintage product list on June 3rd.

No successor model

Apple defines vintage products as “products that are more than 5 years and less than 7 years from the date Apple stopped supplying them to retailers.”

The 27-inch Thunderbolt Display was launched in 2011, but has never been updated since. It was discontinued in June 2016, and no successor model has been released since then.

In 2016, Apple released the UltraFine 5K Display in partnership with LG, and it was thought that Apple’s own brand display would not appear, but in 2019, Pro Display XDR was released at the same time as the Mac Pro. However, the Pro Display XDR, which costs more than 580,000 yen, cannot be compared with the cheap Thunderbolt Display.

The original iPad Air is also on the vintage product list

In addition to the 27-inch Thunderbolt Display, Apple also lists the original iPad Air, which was launched in 2013 and was discontinued in 2016, on its vintage product list.

The 27-inch Apple Cinema Display, 11-inch and 13-inch MacBook Pro (2013 models), which were discontinued in 2014, are also on the Obsolete product list. Obsolete products are products that are more than seven years old since Apple stopped supplying them to retailers.
