A new milestone in Shazam, a song-recognition app

Shazam, Apple’s popular music discovery app and service, has reached a new milestone today: the number of monthly active users exceeds 100 million, and the number of recognitions has exceeded 50 billion since the app was released. Oliver Schusser, Apple’s vice president in charge of Apple Music and Beats, said: “Shazam is synonymous with magic. Both for fans and artists who are discovered, they can get song recognition almost immediately.”

He continued: “Shazam has 1 billion recognitions per month and is one of the most popular music apps in the world. Today’s milestone not only shows people’s love for Shazam, but also shows the growing world of music discovery Needs”. Shazam was launched as a text messaging service in 2002, but began to see significant growth when the App Store launched in 2008, and the Shazam app was also launched.

Shazam set the first billion tags on its 10th anniversary, but in less than 10 years, Shazam has successfully matched more than 50 billion tags with 51 million songs. The first result of Shazam was “Jeepster” by T.Rex, and this result was delivered via SMS.

The song identified by the 50 billionth milestone is Wang Yanwei’s “Unstoppable Love (Unplugged Version)”, and Tone and I’s “Dance Monkey” is still the most recognized song by Shazam in history.

Shazam is built into the Apple device, so you can let Siri recognize the song, or you can access the music recognition function through the control center of the iPhone and iPad. There is also a Shazam application that can be found on the App Store.
