Overseas media iDropNews has taken up shortcuts that allow you to use picture-in-picture (PiP) for free on the iOS version of the YouTube app, so I will introduce it.
YouTube PiP, correspondence in Japan is unknown
As of June 18, 2021 local time, the picture-in-picture function is available only to YouTube Premium members in the United States in the YouTube app for iOS, and it has been announced that it will be provided to non-paid members in the United States. , It is unknown about the offer schedule in Japan.
However, if you use the shortcut “Youtube PiP”, you can easily use the picture-in-picture function of the YouTube app even if you are not a paid member.
Preparation: Install “Scriptable”
To run “Youtube PiP”, you need the free app “Scriptable”, so please install it first. “Scriptable” is an automation creation application that uses JavaScript, but you do not need to operate it.
Set shortcut “Youtube PiP”
Tap “Get Shortcut” on the “Youtube PiP” page published by Shortcuts Gallery to download.
The “Shortcuts” app will launch, so tap “Add Untrusted Shortcuts” at the bottom of the screen to add it to the “My Shortcuts” tab.
Open the “My Shortcuts” tab and confirm that “YouTube PiP” has been added.
Play the video picture-in-picture
In the YouTube app, open the video you want to play picture-in-picture and tap the “Share” icon.
Tap “Other” at the right end of the “Share” menu.
Tap “Youtube PiP” to play the desired video picture-in-picture (only for the first time, YouTube PiP will ask for permission to access Scriptable).
You can play videos in the picture-in-picture window regardless of whether the screen is vertical or horizontal.
In addition, when I tried it, the following error screen was sometimes displayed when executing the shortcut.
In that case, once I removed the “Scriptable” app and reinstalled it, it worked fine.
