Apple’s MagSafe Battery Pack Supports Two-Way Wireless Charging

MagSafe Battery Pack

It turns out that the MagSafe battery pack released by Apple supports two-way wireless charging, which allows you to not only charge your iPhone, but also from your iPhone.

Described on Apple’s official website

On July 13, local time, Apple released the MagSafe battery pack that can be fixed and charged with the MagSafe mechanism of the iPhone 12 series.

The MagSafe battery pack can be magnetically secured to the back of the iPhone 12 series for wireless charging, but Apple has stated in its support documentation that the MagSafe battery pack can be charged from the iPhone, meaning bidirectional wireless charging.

You can charge your iPhone and MagSafe Battery Pack at the same time by attaching the MagSafe Battery Pack to your iPhone and connecting your iPhone to a power source. This is useful when you are connecting your iPhone to another device such as Wired CarPlay or your Mac.

Two-way charging function that was reported to be discontinued

Regarding the MagSafe battery pack, related information was found in iOS 14.5, and a description related to bidirectional charging was found in the application documents to the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC), and it became a hot topic.

When Bloomberg reported on the MagSafe battery pack in February 2021, it said that the development of a two-way wireless charging feature seemed to have been put off.

Two-way charging function that has been rumored before the release of iPhone 11

Two-way wireless charging, which allows wireless charging from the iPhone to other devices, has been rumored even before the launch of the iPhone 11 series in 2019.

When iFixit disassembled the iPhone 11 Pro, a part that seems to be for two-way wireless charging was also found, but it was reported that the function was disabled by software.
