Apple’s iPad series is very popular in the tablet market, and along with this, Apple has become the overwhelming leader in the market share of system-on-chip (SoC) for tablets.
Manufacturers such as Qualcomm and MediaTek, which are proud of their strength in SoCs for smartphones, have a market share of less than 10%, which is inferior in this market.
Apple is the overwhelming leader with a 59% share
According to research firm Strategy Analytics, the tablet SoC market in the first quarter of 2021 (January-March) was $ 761 million, up 33% year-on-year.
In terms of revenue share by manufacturer, Apple is the leader with 59%.
Apple said that the A14 Bionic installed in the iPad Air (4th generation) and the M1 chip installed in the iPad Pro performed well, increasing 60% year-on-year.
The impact of the new coronavirus also helped boost the performance.
MediaTek is doing well in terms of quantity but not in terms of profitability
The share ranking is followed by Intel at 14% and Qualcomm at 10%.
MediaTek, which is making a leap forward in SoCs for smartphones, is doing well, with a 92% increase in volume compared to the same period of the previous year.
However, MediaTek’s SoCs have a low average selling price (ASP) and lag behind other manufacturers in revenue sharing.
