Easy-to-understand classification of USB-C cables by power supply wattage, new logo defined

USB

The USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) has specified the power supply wattage in response to the current definition of “USB-C”, which is ambiguous in a sense and has caused confusion among consumers. We announced a new logo.

Cable power supply speed that cannot be understood just by looking at it

If you think about it normally, you should be able to use any USB-C cable for the “USB-C” port. However, even if they look like similar connectors, the power supply speed, data transfer speed, etc. are different for each cable, so it is surprisingly difficult to find the best one for your device.

To reduce this confusion, USB-IF has announced a logo that specifies data transmission speeds and power supply wattages.

New logo to reduce confusion

The outline is as follows.

  • USB-IF establishes a new Certified USB Type-C® Cable Logos that displays the power supply capacity of a cable in wattage, watts defined in USB Power Delivery (USB PD) 3.1 Make the number 60W or 240W clear.
  • The certified USB4 logo will be updated in parallel to unify branding in the certified USB logo program.
