Facebook announced on October 14 local time that WhatsApp cloud backups can now be encrypted end-to-end on Android and iOS.

WhatsApp announced five years ago that it implemented end-to-end encryption on all platforms. However, until now, when users saved their chats to Google Drive on Android and iCloud on iOS, those backups weren’t encrypted.

This new feature, which enables end-to-end encryption of backups, will be rolled out sequentially to users of the latest version of WhatsApp for Android or iOS.
