According to a survey, worldwide tablet shipments in the third quarter of 2021 (July-September) decreased by 10% year-on-year due to the ongoing shortage of semiconductors and distribution problems due to the impact of the new coronavirus infection. The company Strategy Analytics reports.

Only Apple gains double digits

However, despite the overall downturn in the market, Apple’s iPad shipments were strong. According to a Strategy Analytics survey, iPad shipments in the third quarter of 2021 were 17.3 million units, an increase of 15% over the same period last year.
 
Of the top five tablet shipment vendors, only Apple recorded double-digit growth. As a result, Apple’s market share increased by 8 percentage points from the same period of the previous year to 38%.

Double digit reduction except for Apple and Lenovo

Of the top five vendors, only Lenovo, which is third, has recorded an increase in shipments other than Apple. Shipments were 4.3 million units, up 5 percentage points year-on-year, and the market share in the third quarter of 2021 was 9%, up 1.4 percentage points year-on-year, ranking third.
 
Shipments of Samsung in 2nd place, Amazon in 4th place, and Huawei in 5th place all recorded a significant decrease of double digits compared to the same period of the previous year.
 
Samsung tablet shipments decreased 23% year-on-year to 7.5 million units, with market share down 2.1 percentage points to 17%, and Amazon shipments down 26% year-on-year to 3.7 million units, with market share down 1.4 percentage points. Shipments of Huawei decreased by 64% to 1.8 million units by 8%, and the market share decreased by 6 percentage points to 4%.
