Now that the 100-megapixel camera is no longer novel, the smartphone industry is aiming for new numbers. There is a possibility that a terminal equipped with a 200 million pixel camera will appear from Motorola in the first half of 2022.
Motorola, not Xiaomi
Samsung’s newly developed camera sensor “ISOSELL HP1” seems to be the first smartphone equipped with Motorola’s terminal, not its own smartphone. Initially, it was expected to be installed in the Xiaomi 12 Ultra first, but now the mainstream view is that it will be a triple camera consisting of three 50-megapixel lenses.
It was Ice universe (@UniverseIce), which has a reputation for accuracy of leak information, that announced that Motorola’s smartphone will be the first to be equipped with a 200 million pixel sensor. He pointed out on Twitter that Motorola will be the first to adopt a 200-megapixel camera, Xiaomi will follow in the second half of 2022, and Samsung will follow in 2023.
200MP camera will be adopted by Moto first, then by Xiaomi in the second half of next year, and by 2023, Samsung will adopt 200MP.

Will Motorola be reinstated?
Samsung’s strategy of letting other brands try out their sensors and seeing what happens without giving top priority to their own devices is not new. Xiaomi was the first to install Samsung’s 100-megapixel sensor. However, the news site Notebook Check commented, “I’m surprised that Motorola has taken that position,” just because it was expected to become Xiaomi again.
It is not clear which smartphone will use this 200-megapixel sensor, but there is a growing belief that it will be a model equipped with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 (Snapdragon 898). With the latest SoCs and camera sensors, we are trying to regain the momentum of yesteryear in the high-end smartphone market.
