In the United States, the inauguration of the new President Joe Biden is taking place on Wednesday, January 20, local time. On the other hand, there is some confusion on the Internet, such as the use of force suggested by fake accounts of military officials.

A fake account of a senior military official appears

CNN, a major US media outlet, reported on January 20, local time, on Telegram, a messaging app, that a fake account of General John Heiten, Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the US Army, posted a post suggesting the use of force. It seems that the post was aimed at the timing of the presidential inauguration ceremony.

According to CNN, the fake account uses Telegram’s channel feature to post, “It’s time for former President Trump to use force to defeat his enemies. It’s a long-awaited time.”

It seems that the fake account continued to post disturbing things such as “I can’t stop this” and “I can’t hide behind it anymore”.

As of January 19, 185,000 people were viewing fake account posts and about 220,000 were following their accounts.

Temporarily spread on other SNS

According to CNN, posts by General Haiten’s fake account have been spread on Twitter, Facebook, etc., and SNS companies have been busy responding.

On January 19th, Twitter responded to CNN’s interview that “it is compatible with the account sharing the post” and announced that it would prevent the link from being spread by tweets.

A Facebook spokeswoman also commented on January 20th that it began blocking links to Telegram’s fake accounts.

Telegram has since removed the offending post and displayed a “fake” on the fake account to alert the user.

It is said that the occupancy of the federal parliament that occurred on January 6 was greatly affected by postings on SNS by President Trump and supporters, and Facebook will partially restrict the event function toward the presidential inauguration ceremony. SNS companies are also on the alert.
