Netflix to release new feature “shuffle playback” to all users in the first half of 2021

Netflix

Netflix announced on January 19th, local time, in its financial results for the fourth quarter of 2020 (October-December) that it plans to release the new feature “Shuffle Playback” to all users later this year.

“Shuffle function” will be released in the first half of 2021

Netflix states that this new feature allows users to choose from titles chosen just for them and watch the video right away, rather than browsing the titles.

In shuffle playback, a large button is placed below the user profile on the home screen. Clicking this button launches an algorithm for personalization that randomly displays content that users are likely to like. This includes recently played movies, titles stored in your viewing list, and titles that resemble content you’ve watched in the past.

This feature has been added to the sidebar navigation of the Netflix app on smart TVs, and it seems that the previous “Play Something” has been changed to “shuffle play”. When selected, a question such as “Don’t know what to look for?” Is displayed, and the mechanism is explained first.

Shuffle playback has been tested only on TV devices so far, and although the feature could be given a different name, it will be available to all users worldwide in the first half of 2021. It is a plan.
