The weak point of Samsung’s system-on-chip (SoC) is that it has inferior GPU performance compared to Qualcomm’s. To overcome that, Samsung is collaborating with AMD, a leading GPU manufacturer for personal computers. Finally, we received information that the details will be announced in June 2021.

Announcement of only the GPU part, not the entire SoC?

This information was provided by popular Twitter leaker Ice universe (@UniverseIce). According to it, the technology and specifications of the GPU created by the collaboration between Samsung and AMD will be announced in June of this year.

However, it seems that only the GPU part will be announced here, and other parts including the processor part will not be announced.

Information that Samsung and AMD are co-developing GPUs has been available since last year, and will be installed in the next flagship smartphone, Samsung officially said at the Exynos 2100 announcement event.

Significantly improved graphics performance?

The GPU created in collaboration with AMD is expected to significantly improve the graphics performance of Samsung SoCs.

The current Samsung flagship SoC, the Exynos 2100, outperforms Qualcomm’s flagship SoC, the Snapdragon 888, in CPU-only testing, but has been shown to be losing around the GPU.

On the other hand, there is information that the SoC equipped with AMD GPU is GFX Bench, which exceeds Apple’s A14 Bionic.
