It is said that BOE is cooperating with touch screen manufacturer Universal Interface Solutions (GIS), which is part of Hon Hai Group, which aims to develop OLED panels.
BOE has appeared many times in the content related to Apple’s industry chain. Previously, several rumors related to iPhone 12 believed that they would provide screen panels for Apple, but BOE encountered production problems. It is said that BOE failed to deliver its first batch of OLED panels to Apple in June last year because the product failed the verification test.
Samsung Display finally delivered panels for the high-end iPhone 12 product line and iPhone 12 mini, while LG Display provided the standard 6.1-inch iPhone 12.
Last year, BOE’s yield rate was about 20%, which was not enough to meet Apple’s demand. It is rumored that BOE is working hard to improve this data, but as of November, it still cannot get Apple’s orders.
A report released by foreign media The Elec in November showed that Apple will revisit BOE’s manufacturing plant in Chengdu, China in May or June. If it passes the verification test, BOE’s display panel can be used for the official refurbished iPhone 12, maybe It can also be used on some iPhone 13 products.
“Economic Daily” hinted that BOE’s position in Apple’s supply chain has improved, and its OLED technology is now “closer to that of major Korean manufacturers.” The website also stated that BOE has now completed certification testing and is manufacturing a small number of display components for the iPhone 12, but it is not clear due to mixed rumors.
As Apple has switched to LTPO technology to adopt 120Hz refresh rate on some models, the manufacturing technology of the iPhone 13 display is expected to be more difficult.
