Based on the perspective of the industrial chain, he predicted the development route of the iPhone in the next few years. Among them, the design of bangs is reduced, and rumors such as the folding screen iPhone.
The iPhone 13’s bangs will become smaller
Guo Mingchi believes that the 2021 iPhone (tentatively named iPhone 13) series will have smaller “bangs”, and the two Pro models will be equipped with low-power LTPO display technology to achieve a high refresh rate of 120Hz.
“High refreshing” has always been the expectation of many users
Previously, other sources claimed that some iPhone 13 models will support 120Hz refresh rate, including display industry analyst Ross Young, Internet whistleblower Jon Prosser and Max Weinbach.
Since 2017, all iPad Pro models have a “ProMotion” dynamic refresh rate display, and the screen refresh rate is variable, up to 120Hz. However, this technology has not yet spread to the iPhone product line.
In addition, Guo Mingchi said that the iPhone 13 series will have four models similar to the iPhone 12, all of which will still be equipped with a Lightning interface and Qualcomm’s X60 modem. The latter has made many improvements to the 5G network.
Guo Mingchi previously predicted that by 2021, at least one high-end iPhone will adopt a non-interface design, that is, become a fully wireless link. But his research report today claims that the Lightning interface will still exist, and there will be no all-wireless phones this year.
Guo Mingchi wrote: “If the iPhone abandons Lightning in the future, it may directly adopt a non-interface design that supports MagSafe instead of overusing the USB-C port.” He pointed out that USB-C is not as waterproof as Lightning. “At present, the MagSafe ecosystem is not mature enough, so the iPhone will continue to use the Lightning port for the foreseeable future.”
Another point is that the sensor shift image stabilization system currently only used in the iPhone 12 Pro Max will be extended to the entire iPhone 13 series. He also predicts that compared with the ƒ/2.4 aperture of the iPhone 12 model, the iPhone 13 Pro model will have an upgraded ultra-wide-angle lens with a larger ƒ/1.8 aperture and autofocus. However, the LiDAR scanner (LiDAR) will still be limited to the iPhone 13 Pro model, and there are no rumors that it will be extended to more models.
In addition, Guo Mingchi believes that compared with the iPhone 12 model, the four iPhone 13 models have a larger battery capacity. This is due to the structural design that further compresses the space, such as integrating the SIM card slot with the motherboard and reducing certain The thickness of the Face ID component. However, a larger battery will make all iPhone 13 models a little heavier.
In 2022, there will be an iPhone with a perforated screen
In another research report, Guo Mingchi stated that at least one iPhone product in 2022 will have no bangs and will instead use a “perforated screen.”
This is a commonly used design for Android phones. Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi and others have punch-hole phones for both flagship and entry-level phones.
Guo Mingchi said that the perforated screen will be used in at least some high-end iPhones in 2022, and it may be that all iPhone models in 2022 will use this design. He did not provide any further details, such as how the Face ID component can be put down.
If you use a perforated screen, you may need a fingerprint under the screen
There are rumors that Apple plans to use off-screen fingerprints on at least some future iPhones, a technology that has already appeared in the Android camp. Chinese smartphone manufacturer ZTE also recently demonstrated its under-display camera system, and perhaps Apple will explore a similar solution.
Guo Mingchi believes that if the development goes well, at least one new high-end iPhone will be equipped with under-screen fingerprints, periscope telephoto and true full screen without bangs by 2023. Apple may also launch a 6-inch screen in the first half of 2023, using Face ID, and a new low-end iPhone with a price of less than $600 to replace the iPhone 11-this may be the legendary iPhone SE Plus.
There are still many uncertainties for the folding screen iPhone
Regarding information about Apple’s foldable iPhone project, Ming-Chi Kuo believes that they may launch a product with a 7.5-8-inch display in 2023.
Whether this product can be released in 2023 will depend on whether Apple can solve the “key technology and mass production problems” of the folding screen this year. He said that the trial production of the product “has not been officially launched yet,” and it seems to be still in the research stage. Previous rumors indicate that Apple may still decide to abandon the folding screen.
Folding screen iPhone rumors have not been broken recently
At present, manufacturers such as Huawei, Samsung, etc. have launched folding screen products with different designs, so rumors of folding screen iPhones are prevailing. Earlier there were reports that Apple has been working with Samsung and LG to develop a foldable OLED screen. Another recent report stated that the display range is between 7.3-7.6 inches and supports Apple Pencil.
We guess that Apple is definitely studying this kind of product, but at present, when problems such as crease/durability cannot be solved, it may not be launched rashly. In the most important product line of the iPhone, Apple will not allow products that are experimental.
