Apple reminds: Push notification service APNs will no longer support the old version of the protocol after March 31

Early this morning, Apple issued a special reminder to developers that the requirement to adopt APNs provider APIs will be implemented from March 31.

Apple said that the HTTP/2-based Apple Push Notification Service (APNs) provider API can help developers effectively utilize powerful features. For example, authentication using JSON Web Token (JSON Web Token), more comprehensive error messages, and feedback based on specific notifications.

Apple pointed out that if developers still use the old version of the binary protocol to send push notifications, they should make sure to update to the APNs provider API as soon as possible. APNs will no longer support the old binary protocol after March 31, 2021.

Apple told developers in February that the server certificate of Apple’s push notification service was updated. Starting from March 29th, HTTP/2 based on tokens and certificates and connected to Apple’s push notification service must incorporate a new root certificate (AAACertificateServices 5/12/2020) to replace the old GeoTrust Global CA root certificate.
