Apple has acquired the largest number of AI companies in the past 4 years

According to statistics from GlobalData, between 2016 and 2020, Apple has acquired the largest number of AI (artificial intelligence) companies. In addition to Apple, Accenture, Google, Microsoft and Facebook have also acquired a large number of AI companies.

AI companies acquired by Apple include Emotient, Turi, Glimpse, RealFace, Shazam, SensoMotoric, Silk Labs, Drive.ai, Laserlike, SpectralEdge, Voysis, XNOR.ai, etc. Apple hopes that AI and machine learning can improve the company’s products and services.

Apple has not officially announced all acquired companies, so some companies may not have been reported after they were acquired by Apple. At the shareholders meeting in February this year, Apple CEO Tim Cook said that in the past six years, Apple has acquired nearly 100 companies.

Many companies acquired by Apple are to improve Siri, such as the acquisition of Inductiv to improve Siri data, the acquisition of Voysisi to improve Siri’s natural language understanding, and the acquisition of PullString to facilitate iOS developers to call Siri functions in their applications.

Other companies acquired are for future products, such as the acquisition of Drive.ai, which is an autonomous driving start-up company. In the future, the company’s technology may be integrated in Apple’s autonomous vehicles.
