The US Patent and Trademark Office published a patent on mobile device displays filed by Google on December 16, 2021 local time on August 31. From the patent application, LetsGo Digital reports that Google may have an embedded camera under the display on the Google Pixel 7 at the earliest.
How to increase the display area
The patent filed by Google describes how to increase the display size of mobile devices without increasing the housing.
For this reason, the adoption of an embedded camera under the display is taken up as one of the ideas as a method of arranging the front camera etc. without reducing the display area.
Developed by a former Samsung Display engineer
The patented front camera is similar to the one on the Galaxy Z Fild3 5G in that it roughens the pixel density of the display and allows light to pass through.
The idea for this front camera came from a senior engineer who has been with Google for three and a half years.
Prior to joining Google, this senior engineer worked for Samsung Display for over 14 years, developing OLED displays.
