The iPhone 13 series has seen high consumer demand since its launch, prompting Apple to produce more smartphones. In a report on Monday, iPhone production appeared to have grown considerably.

According to TrendForce, Apple maintained its consistent leading position in smartphone brand production rankings in the fourth quarter of 2021. In the fourth quarter of 2021, Apple increased production to an all-time high of 85.5 million units, up 66% sequentially.

TrendForce also believes that Apple has seized the market share left by Huawei, which may be the main factor behind Apple’s outstanding performance this quarter. It is estimated that orders for Huawei’s flagship models are gradually being replaced by iPhones.

The increase in production also helped Apple ramp up iPhone manufacturing for the full year 2021, from 200 million in 2020 to 233 million. TrendForce attributed this to Apple’s expansion of its market share in China from 10% to 16%.

Overall, global smartphone production rose to 356 million units in the fourth quarter of 2021, a 9.5% increase from the third quarter to the fourth quarter of this year. The figures for the fourth quarter of 2021 were slightly lower than those for 2020 and 2019, because while iPhone production continued to grow, production fell due to component shortages affecting other suppliers.

Annual smartphone production is expected to reach 1.381 billion units in 2022, despite a likely decline in smartphone demand in China and limited growth in other markets.
