Loop Capital analyst John Donovan said in a note to clients that Apple is finally realizing the limited appeal of its smaller iPhones, which is where the company is preparing to make bigger bets on the iPhone 13 one of the reasons.

In other words, Donovan believes that the iPhone SE is unlikely to be the hit Apple hopes, especially because of the wide availability of the iPhone 13, which is much stronger in every way. “Nevertheless, apparently this lack of demand has surprised AAPL, and the shift to more of the iPhone 13 is underway,” Donovan noted according to Seeking Alpha.

2021 is the second and final update the iPhone mini series has received, as Apple prepares to ditch the 5.4-inch form factor entirely.

The iPhone 14 lineup due in September will no longer include the mini form factor. Apple will stick with the bigger iPhone entirely, and the iPhone mini’s place in the lineup will be taken over by the all-new iPhone 14 Max, which will feature a 6.7-inch display. As such, the iPhone 14 lineup will include two 6.1-inch iPhones and two 6.7-inch models.

Of course, Apple has yet to confirm these changes, so you’d better be skeptical about this information for now. But on the other hand, it makes sense to drop the model, which is believed to have been selling well below expectations since the first mini model launched.
