Was Steve Jobs thinking of installing a SIM slot in the original iPhone?

The first iPhone

Long before eSIM came out, Apple co-founder Steve Jobs envisioned an iPhone without a SIM card slot, revealed by Tony Fadell, the father of the iPod.

It was better not to have a SIM slot in the design

In an interview with journalist Joanna Stern at the Computer History Museum, Fadell unveiled a new development story for the original iPhone, revealing the fact that Jobs was pushing for a “SIM-slotless iPhone.” bottom.

The first iPhone was released in 2007, long before eSIM came out, but even at that time it was possible to connect to a carrier network without a SIM using a communication method called CDMA.

It seems that Jobs preferred the specification without a SIM card slot because of his design preference.

Convince Jobs that CDMA won’t work

Fadell also revealed that he had to use market data to convince Jobs that CDMA wouldn’t work because of the smaller number of CDMAs available compared to the larger market share of GSM.

This wasn’t the first time Jobs had to convince Jobs, and when Jobs was trying to make an iPhone with Click Wheel input, he had to encourage him to take a different approach. However, it was revealed in an interview the other day.
