It is reported that after Apple accidentally discovered the screen replacement, BOE may lose orders for 30 million iPhone 14 OLED screens

IT House May 20 news, according to Apple Insider, Apple is seeking to shift orders for up to 30 million iPhone 14 OLED screens from BOE after BOE changed its specifications.

BOE allegedly changed the circuit width of the thin film transistor (TFT) on its iPhone 13 and was discovered by Apple in February 2022. Apple asked to stop production, and now BOE is reportedly at risk of losing all orders, including the iPhone 14 series.

According to The Elec, an anonymous source said BOE sent a C-level executive — possibly a CTO, maybe even a CEO — to Apple headquarters. Executives, plus an undisclosed number of employees, made their case for why they changed the design.

It’s unclear how Apple responded, but The Elec said the BOE team asked Apple to approve its production of OLED panels for the iPhone 14. But got no clear response.

The Elec estimates that, had it not been for this incident, BOE would have received orders for 30 million screens. Apple is now more likely to place orders between Samsung Display and LG Display.

However, production of the iPhone 14 screen is not expected to begin until June at the earliest.

“It is reported that Apple has discovered unexpected design changes, and the iPhone 13 display supply chain has eliminated BOE”
