Apple’s U.S. Apple Stores begin to implement iPhone “click to pay”

IT House May 25 news, according to MacRumors, Apple launched a new “Tap to Pay on iPhone” feature in February, which will allow compatible iPhones to use Apple Pay, contactless credit cards and debit cards. Debit cards and other digital wallets accept payments without additional hardware.

Apple began testing the feature at its Apple Park visitor center earlier this month, and now Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman tweeted that the feature will be rolling out at Apple Store retail locations across the U.S. starting today, allowing customers to try it out. This feature may not be immediately available in every Apple Store.

Apple said the feature will be available in the U.S. later this year, but has not shared a specific launch timeframe. The feature will allow small businesses and merchants to accept contactless payments through supported iOS apps using an iPhone XS or newer. At checkout, the merchant will simply prompt the customer to hold their iPhone or Apple Watch, contactless credit or debit card, or other digital wallet near the merchant’s iPhone, then use NFC technology to securely complete the payment.

Currently, merchants that accept contactless payments on the iPhone must rely on additional hardware, such as the Square Reader, which comes in various models and works wirelessly or connects to the iPhone’s Lightning port.
