In the latest issue of the “Power On” newsletter, Gurman outlines his expectations for all of Apple’s upcoming operating systems, with improvements ranging from iOS 16, iPadOS 16, watchOS 9, tvOS 16 and macOS 13.

Apple is reportedly planning to introduce lock screen changes in iOS 16, including wallpapers with gadget-like features, and we’ve previously reported that the always-on lock screen feature paired with the hardware feature is finally coming, which Apple originally planned for last year. The new features planned for the iPhone 13 were abandoned due to hardware performance issues.

Regarding iPadOS 16, Gurman expects “big changes in windowing and multitasking,” while tvOS 16 is said to get “more smart home connectivity.”

Gurman expects the iOS/macOS built-in messaging app to gain “more social networking-like features, especially around audio messaging.” The Health app isn’t expected to expand to iPadOS or macOS, but it’s said to have “a ton of new features” coming with the iPhone and Apple Watch.

watchOS 9 is said to include “significant improvements to watchOS that affect everyday operations and navigation,” as well as changes to the Apple Watch face and a new low-power mode.

macOS 13 will overhaul the System Preferences interface to make it more consistent with iOS’s Settings app experience, including organizing settings by app, and other redesigns of default apps.
