The replacement cycle for smartphones has been gradually increasing since 2013, when it was the shortest.
In 2021, the replacement cycle was shortened for the first time in a long time, but in 2022 it will be longer again, and it is expected to be the longest in the past 15 years.

According to research firm Strategy Analytics, the time to change smartphone models gradually increased after recording the shortest average of 28 months in 2013, reaching 43 months in 2020.
This is due to the lack of subsidies for smartphone purchases, the lack of major innovations in smartphones, and the increase in users of prepaid smartphones for low-income earners in emerging countries.
2022 will be a record high, but it is expected to shorten after that
Strategy Analytics analyzes that the smartphone replacement cycle was slightly shortened in 2021 due to deregulation by the new coronavirus and promotion of vaccination, but it will be longer again in 2022 and will be the longest in history.
Reasons for this include the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, rising energy prices and high inflation.
After 2023, the replacement cycle will be gradually shortened due to the economic recovery and the shift to 5G communication compatible models, and it will be shortened to 41 months in 2027.
