Supply chain costs are passed on to consumers, and Apple’s iPhone 14 / Pro series has been exposed to a $100 price increase

July 10 news that the new iPhones in 2022 may cost more for consumers, with one analyst claiming that the price of the iPhone 14 series is expected to increase by $100.

With the second half of the year approaching, Apple’s vast supply chain industry is working overtime to prepare for the four new iPhones to be released this fall. However, the Apple supplier arrangement could eventually force Apple to significantly increase the pricing of its flagship products.

Wedbush Securities analyst Dan Ives said “the price of the iPhone 14 will increase by $100,” according to The Sun. “Prices have been rising across the supply chain, and Cook needs to pass those costs on to consumers when the new iPhone is released.”

In May of this year, Samsung followed other companies in raising the price of chip production by 20%, and various companies in the parts industry also raised prices for various reasons. Covid-19-related lockdowns have also created problems for Apple’s supply chain, with partners struggling to catch up with production.

CCS Insight’s Ben Wood confirmed Dan Ives’ assertion that Apple should raise prices, but it’s up to Apple. “There’s no question that production and component costs continue to rise for all consumer electronics manufacturers,” Wood said, citing changing currency rates this year as a factor as well.

“These factors suggest that a price increase may be necessary,” the analyst said, but added that “given the ‘headwind’ of costs, Apple may think the price increase will ultimately be counterproductive.”

It is said that Apple’s iPhone 14 series will increase the price by $100. After the adjustment, the iPhone 14 (128GB) will be priced at $899 as an entry model, the iPhone 14Pro will be priced at $1099, and the iPhone 14Pro Max will be priced at $1199.

Previously, the media disclosed that Apple will release four models of the new iPhone 14 series this year, namely iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Among them, only the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will be equipped with the new 4nm process A16 chip, and mid-range iPhones such as the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max will use last year’s 5nm process A15 chip.

In terms of color, according to previous revelations, in addition to bronze, the iPhone 14 series will also add purple color matching, as well as silver, green color matching and other color matching.
